Kevin Range is a recruitment partner at Resource Solutions, our recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) business, working on-site within the technology and cyber security division at a major bank in Jacksonville. Kevin reveals what it’s like to work in an RPO environment and why he loves working for Resource Solutions.

How did you find out about Resource Solutions?

After completing my master’s degree in finance, I joined a recruitment firm where I specialised in recruiting architecture, environmental and engineering roles. Six years later, I had progressed to account manager, but increasingly found my role frustrating and unfulfilling. In addition, I’d recently started a family and was struggling to achieve a good work-life balance.

While looking for new roles, a former manager, got in touch and suggested that I apply to Resource Solutions as they knew someone who worked there. This conversation prompted me to research the RPO model. I decided that an RPO environment would be a great fit for me, so I decided to apply. 

What excited you most about joining Resource Solutions?

I was really impressed by Resource Solutions’ client portfolio, especially as the company has only recently opened in the US market. The prospect of working on-site with major players in the banking sector was particularly exciting as it meant I’d be able to employ a more strategic approach to my work, which is something that I was really looking for in my next role.

How does working for Resource Solutions differ from your previous recruitment experience?

In my previous role, the approach to client relationships was quite transactional. However, at Resource Solutions, I work on-site with my client and my focus is on delivering great results that have a long-term positive impact. Ultimately, working for an RPO means you adopt a full-cycle approach to recruitment, so you’re always looking at the bigger picture and how you can improve processes. For me, this means I now have the opportunity to wear a variety of different recruitment hats, which has been great for broadening my skillset and keeping my days interesting.  

What do you enjoy most about your role?

One of the things I love most about my role is that I have the autonomy to develop my own working style and decide how to manage my day. I’ve found the management team to be incredibly approachable and supportive – I never feel uncomfortable asking a question or putting forward a new idea. Similarly, I really enjoy working with my team. I’ve found all my colleagues to be incredibly hardworking and great team players.

How would you describe the company culture?

It’s a very open and supportive culture, where sharing ideas is encouraged and, more importantly, you are able to achieve a good work-life balance. As someone with a young family, having the ability to enjoy a challenging and rewarding role, without taking my work home is really refreshing and one of the most noticeable differences between the previous recruitment roles I’ve held and working at Resource Solutions.

What skills are essential to succeeding in an RPO environment?

There’s no question that you need to be a self-starter and have the ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels. You also need to be confident in managing your workload. It’s a fast-paced working environment, but if you’re a good problem-solver and are committed to delivering excellent service, you can achieve great job satisfaction.
