From auditor to recruitment in Bangkok

Kanruthai made the move from Big 4 auditor into recruitment when she joined Robert Walters in 2015. She talks about how her skills were transferable into recruitment, what she enjoys about her new role and the culture in our Bangkok office.

Why did you make the move into recruitment?

“I had been working at a Big 4 consultancy firm for over three years and was ready to do something new. Around that time, a close friend of mine approached me and suggested a headhunter role. I started researching recruitment as a career and thought it sounded like an interesting next step. Having looked at various recruitment firms, I was drawn to Robert Walters. Not only did it specialise in financial services recruitment, it was also a large global firm where I felt there would be international opportunities.

How were your skills transferable?

While working as an auditor I had developed strong negotiation and client management skills, all of which was highly transferable into recruitment. As well as this, the fact that I come from a financial background means I have a keen understanding of what it is my candidates do and what my clients are looking for in their hires.

What do you love most about your role?

I really enjoy meeting new people and seeing my successfully placed candidates growing in their careers and happy in their new roles. It’s also great to receive positive feedback from my clients telling me that the candidate I helped secure for them is a perfect fit for their company.

What do you enjoy most about working at Robert Walters?

One of the best things about working at Robert Walters is having the opportunity to work alongside senior professionals within this business. Most of my colleagues are also specialists in the industry they recruit for, and have worked in other industries for a good four to five years before moving into recruitment. As such, they bring a deep understanding and professionalism to their roles. It’s inspiring to work with people like that and the team here is highly determined and focused. So it’s a fantastic learning environment.

Robert Walters is also very invested in developing its people - you are given regular training throughout your career here and supported from the outset.

Describe the culture in the Bangkok office

Our team in Bangkok is very close-knit and hard working. We believe in open communication and always give 100%, whether it is during work or team bonding activities. We love going out together and socialising.

What advice would you give to someone interested in recruitment?

If you’re someone who is self-driven, motivated and has a positive attitude, recruitment is a career which can offer fantastic earning potential and career progression. It’s important to be committed, responsible and determined to succeed, to get as much as you can out of the role. If you can do that, the opportunities are endless.”
